Watch: Netanyahu visits bedroom where 13-year-old murdered

July 3, 2016

Hours before the terrorist attack in Har Hevron, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu paid a condolence visit to the family of Hallel-Yaffa Ariel in Kiryat Arba.

Ariel, 13, was murdered in her bed on Thursday morning by a terrorist.

Netanyahu inspected the room in which the murder took place, and was shown how close the house is to the town’s perimeter fence, allowing the terrorist to break into the house before security forces responding to the breach in the fence arrived.

In their conversation with the Prime Minister, Hallel’s parents Amichai and Rina implored him to continue supporting and strengthening the town of Kiryat Arba.

“We’re here to stay, not to leave. We came here over 49 years ago to stay. We have a view here; I don’t want to see this view. There’s a new neighborhood planned… I don’t want to see the view, I want to see a neighborhood,” said the father, Amichai.

Hallel’s mother, Rina, talked about the impossibility of allowing the terror threat to continue, and Prime Minister Netanyahu’s ideological and electoral responsibility to ensure the security of the towns of Judea. “We’re the most loyal voters, who did we have to vote for?, we voted for you. You’re our people. If there was a left-wing government I wouldn’t say anything, I would’ve just said ‘thank you for coming’, given them wine and said goodbye. We have a strong government, we aren’t the enemy here, we support you. You can’t just walk out of here and ignore matters, we need more of the land settled.”

“We have to wake up tomorrow morning, and the next morning. He needs to go work in the vineyards,” said Rina, indicating her husband, “he can’t be under constant threat of terror… I can’t lose him too.”

The conversation then turned to the subject of Hallel herself, as Amichai and Rina tried to describe their grief, and the loss to the family and the community.

“Do you have teenage children Mr. Prime Minister? I never even got the chance to fight with her. What do you say about a girl who doesn’t ask for designer clothes, Mr. Prime Minister? Who doesn’t want spending money. A modest girl, a girl who loves wildlife and nature. She never did anything to anyone, she only ever did good, danced, and wanted to bring light to the world. That’s it. We dreamed of marrying her off, beautiful girl, but God wanted her in heaven.”

The bereaved mother ended by issuing an invitation to Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman to come visit Kiryat Arba, in order to understand the importance of developing and strengthening the town and residents.

“I invite you, Mr. Avigdor Liberman. Come, buy wine, invite your friends and strengthen this place, so people will see that Kiryat Arba is a place of life. We have patience, we’re strong, but help us for the children’s sake. We need to take care of that.”
