US Activist Attacks ‘Racist’ Liberals for Excusing Black Rioters
April 27, 2015When the mayor of Baltimore, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, said her forces had tried to “deescalate” recent riots by allowing rioters to destroy property, many in the US were shocked.
At a press conference following the riots, which happened after a protest over the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray in police custody, Rawlings-Blake told reporters: “While we tried to make sure that they were protected from the cars and the other things that were going on. We also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well.”
The death of Freddy Gray – who was Black – was seen by many as an example of police targeting of black Americans, and the death and riots which followed are just the latest such episode since the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.
But while many have sought to excuse the rioting as a “natural response” to racism – perceived or real – within US police forces, one outspoken young activist says that excusing violence by Black people in such as way is itself racist.
Chloe Valdary, herself a black American, penned at oped last year in which she labeled such “well-meaning paternalism” as inherently racist.
Now, she has appeared in a video released by Prager University, which she says she hopes will “spark a conversation” over the racism of what she terms as liberal “condescenders”, who view black people as “children” not responsible for their actions.
“The only difference between this view and that of White Supremacists is that White Supremacists are honest and open. In their view, blacks are inferior to whites, period. But those who condescend to blacks cloak themselves in self-righteousness, so somehow that makes it OK.”
Is that a fair analysis? Check out the video and decide for yourself:
