UN’s Ban Ki-moon arrives for Israel visit

June 27, 2016

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon has arrived in Israel for a two-day visit.

In the course of his visit, he will meet President Reuven Rivlin and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

In addition, he will meet what are described as “senior security officials” who will give him a briefing on Israel’s policies in Judea and Samaria.

The secretary-general is also to meet lecturers and students in Tel Aviv University, where he will view exhibits on innovative technology and research, and receive an honorary doctorate.

He also plans to visit Ramallah.

Ban is accompanied by Israel’s UN Ambassador, Danny Danon.

“This is an important visit in which we will make clear to the secretary-general that the state of Israel is an island of stability in the Middle East, and that the solution for the conflict with the Palestinians will only be reached through direct talks,” said Danon.
