Supreme Court limits demolition of terrorist’s home
August 3, 2016The home of Muhammad Tarayra, the Arab terrorist who stabbed 13-year old Hallel Yaffa Ariel to death as she slept, will be only partially demolished, following a ruling by the Supreme Court.
In rendering their decision, the justices partially accepted the argument made by attorney Leah Tzemel on behalf of the Tarayra family, who had appealed the demolition order.
While the IDF had originally planned to destroy the entire structure following the attack, according to the Supreme Court’s ruling, only the second story of the home will be demolished, with the first floor left intact.
The court also ruled that if army engineers are unable to demolish the second floor without destroying the first floor as well, they must seal off the second floor, rather than demolish the entire building.
The Tarayra family had appealed to the court on the basis of ‘humanitarian concerns’, an argument the justices ultimately accepted.
