Smotrich: Why aren’t free speech lovers behind Rabbi Levinstein?
July 19, 2016MK Bezalel Smotrich (Jewish Home) has commented on the IDF’s decision to reconsider its relationship with Rabbi Yigal Levinstein, the head of the Eli pre-military academy.
“It’s interesting what the knights of democracy and free expression, who now justify the IDF’s silencing and persecution of Rabbi Levinstein (and the entire Eli academy), are saying to themselves,” he wrote on Twitter.
“Why can the IDF Deputy Chief of Staff, who compared us to Nazis, continue in his position and Rabbi Levinstein can’t [say what he thinks about other matters]?! This is hypocrisy at its best.”
Earlier on Tuesday, it was reported that the IDF is looking into whether Rabbi Yigal Levinstein will be permitted to continue visiting military bases and giving lectures to soldiers.
In addition, the head of the IDF’s manpower division, General Hagai Topolansky, has canceled his intended visit to the Eli academy today, and Rabbi Levinstein will not give his scheduled lecture to academy soldiers.
