Report: Police Brutally Beat Three Minors, Ages 9, 12, and 14

February 1, 2015

Three children from the same family were arrested Sunday morning after they resisted police during demolitions of their home community of Givat Gal near Hevron, the Honenu civil rights group reports.

The IDF’s Civil Administration forces, along with police, destroyed a path surrounding the community, and clashes with locals erupted at the site.

Three brothers, aged 9, 12, and 14, were arrested for resisting the raid on their home.

Family members and witnesses stated that the three minors were severely beaten. The 14 year-old, whose hand was broken before clashes broke out, may have had his other hand broken by a police officer, Magen David Adom (MDA) medics at the scene said.

Police repeatedly refused the boy medical treatment and took him in for questioning instead. The 9 year-old was also beaten and the 12 year-old was strangled.

All were taken to the police station in the Hevron Hills; dozens gathered outside to protest the unlawful detention of children.

Honenu attorneys are working quickly for their release, and noted particularly that the 9 year-old is under the age of criminal responsibility in Israel.

“We are amazed every time at how the police crosses red lines,” Honenu stated about the case. “How can they brutally beat 9 and 12 year-old children and then arrest them for allegedly breaking the law?”

“Even Arab children disturbing border police have not received such cruel treatment,” they fired further. “This is a complete loss of values.”
