Rabbi Berland’s arrest extended

July 21, 2016

Rabbi Eliezer Berland, suspected of sexual abuse against the women of his following Shuvu Banim, will be held under arrest for one more day, and then spend 10 days under house arrest.

The Magistrate’s Court of Rishon Letzion ruled to extend Rabbi Berland’s arrest, after he was returned to Israel on Tuesday to stand trial.

Rabbi Berland fled Israel four years ago, when the Israeli police opened an investigation into complaints of sexual abuse.

Rabbi Berland’s odyssey came to an end when he was recently arrested in Johannesburg, South Africa. He was extradited to Israel this week.
