Police Prepare for Burial of Glick’s Would-be Assassin
October 30, 2014Jerusalem police are making preparations for the funeral of the terrorist who shot and seriously wounded Temple Mount activist Yehuda Glick, which will be held at 11 p.m. Thursday night.
The terrorist, 32 year-old Mu’taz Hijazi of Abu Tor in southern Jerusalem, was killed Thursday morning in a police raid carried out on suspicion that he was the person who shot Glick.
Hijazi, who belonged to the Islamic Jihad terrorist group, was killed by Yamam special forces after opening fire at them.
Police allowed the funeral but stipulated that no more than 45 family members be present and that it take place at night, so as to reduce as much as possible the chance of riots. Police are preparing for the event with large forces of Border Police, uniformed and covert forces, and technology used in detecting rioters and arresting them.
Jerusalem District Commander Moshe (Chico) Edri decided Thursday to open the Temple Mount to Muslims on Friday in a concession to world pressure, after a day in which both Muslims and Jews were not allowed to enter the Mount.
However, after police received intelligence about the intentions of young Arabs to riot at the end of Friday prayers on the Mount, the district commander decided to allow only men over 50 to enter the compound, and women of all ages.
