Official PA TV teacher of Islam: ‘The Jews are a people of lies’
July 4, 2016After two Israelis were murdered last week, and several more injured, Palestinian Authority incitement against Jews continues unabated.
Palestinian Media Watch, an NGO dedicated to exposing incitement and Jew-hatred in Palestinian media, has published a translated video in which a top Islamic scholar, speaking on official PA television, claims that the Jews are “a people of lies”.
When PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas was caught 10 days ago recycling the infamous libel accusing Israelis of poisoning Palestinian water, his office was forced to issue a retraction, and declared that: “President Abbas – out of the deep respect he has for all religions, including Judaism – emphasizes that he did not intend to harm Judaism or its believers in general.” [Official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, June 25, 2016]
However, just a week before, official PA TV teacher of Islam, Imad Hamato, was explaining to his Palestinian viewers that from early Islamic stories we learn that “Jews are a people of lies.”
Hamato, who hosts a weekly TV program and is also Professor of Quranic Studies at the University of Palestine in Gaza, told a legend about Jews from the time of Mohammed who admired and praised a fellow Jew as their leader and their greatest sage, until they heard he converted to Islam, when they declared that he was a fool. Hamato presented the Jews’ change of opinion as proof that all Jews are liars, and that “lies, distortion of the truth, and aversion to the truth flow in their blood.”
Later in the same lesson he taught that before Mohammed’s time Jews intentionally caused wars between the tribes of Mecca. He added that “this is always the practice of the Jews. They create wars”:
PA TV teacher Hamato has repeatedly taught anti-Semitism as part of his Islamic teachings. Palestinian Media Watch has documented him teaching that Jews are behind all that is wrong in the world and that Jews control “the money, the press and the resources,” parroting the age-old anti-Semitic trope of Jewish world-dominance. He has also stated in the past that Israel gave the world “moral corruption and degeneration of values,” and helps the CIA distribute drugs to the Arab world “to destroy… our children’s values.”
