New Jersey haredi schools to receive greater security funding

July 19, 2016

The State of New Jersey will allocate an additional 7.5 Million Dollars for the security needs of private schools, which include haredi day schools and high schools, as well as the ‘Beit Ya’akov’ girls’ schools.

The new budget reflects a 200% increase from last year’s security budget, and provides 50 Dollars per child. The new money will enable the schools to purchase and install new advanced security equipment, including cameras, sensors, and locks. It’ll also enable the schools to hire more security personnel. The budget also maintains current levels of funding for other technological schooling needs.

The bill passed by the New Jersey State Legislature originally included even greater increases in funding for security and technology budgets for private schools, but Governor Chris Christie lowered the amount, exercising his veto powers.
