Netanyahu cancels aid package for Har Hevron
July 14, 2016Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has withdrawn the government’s plan to transfer 40 million shekels ($10.4 million US) to Har Hevron communities. The topic has also been completely removed fromthe next Cabinet meeting’s agenda out of concern over criticism from the White House.
Following the recent terror attacks around Har Hevron, Netanyahu ordered the creation of a social-economic aid package for the local communities, even promising that the move would be brought for government approval on Sunday.
Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel (Jewish Home) led the other ministers in drawing up the aid package. The ministers even arranged a budget, but earlier today the proponents received a message from Netanyahu’s office that the communities would not receive assistance.
Minister Ariel responded to the development by saying that “we won’t accept a situation in which political pressures delay social and financial assistance to the residents of Judea and Samaria.
“During the last Cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister order that, following the recent attacks and the difficult security situation, the government would vote on supporting Har Hevron. Now it seems that, despite the agreements, the decision have been frozen and the entire issue will not be brought up in the Cabinet meeting.”
