June 23, 2016

Since the start of the swimming season, which began approximately six weeks ago, Magen David Adom (MDA) personnel retrieved a total of 111 people from beaches, pools and various water reservoirs across the country.

According to MDA figures, 18 people drowned to death, 4 were critically injured, 6 were seriously injured, 9 were moderately injured and 74 were slightly injured.

MDA medics provided medical care in 87 cases, sixty-seven of which occurred in the Mediterranean Sea, five at the Dead Sea, one off the coast of Eilat, three on the shores of the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee), seven in public swimming pools, four in private pools and one case in the Gan HaShlosha (Sachne) National Park.

“During the summer, MDA personnel prepare specially for the many dangers during the season, which includes the danger of drowning, and deployed specialized rescue and emergency on the beaches,” said MDA Director General Eli Bin.

“We are ready and prepared for any scenario and event anywhere and have made every effort for the sake of the mission of saving lives. I urge the public to follow MDA recommendations, avoid unnecessary risks and call the MDA emergency hotline by dialing 101 in any case where medical assistance is needed.”
