Kiryat Arba families demand new neighborhood

July 4, 2016

Dozens of families have set up camp in front of the home of the late Hallel-Yaffa Ariel since Friday, demanding an immediate response to the horrific murder by bringing ten caravans and setting up a new neighborhood.

Minister Miri Regev (Likud), MK Oded Forer (Yisrael Beteynu), MKs Moti Yogev and Shuli  Mualem-Rafaeli (Jewish Home) and MK Yehuda Glick (Likud) came to offer their support and praise for these families.

MK Moti Yogev said during his visit, “We are here, on Hill 18, in front of Hallel-Yaffa Ariel’s house in Kiryat Arba. This hill is within the blue line [the existing town boundary] of Kiryat Arba and within the construction program of Kiryat Arba. There are young families here that are suffering, together with their children, so that this place, in front of Hallel-Yaffa’s house, can become a new neighborhood.”

“This is an appropriate Zionist response to the murder. “By your blood shall you live, by your blood shall you live” (Yehezkel 15:6). With the blood of Hallel-Yaffa Ariel and of Rabbi Michael Mark but I hope of nobody else. We must establish a neighborhood here. Immediately! This week we must already prepare the groundwork to bring caravans for these wonderful families, and within two months start planning and developing. The Civil Administration knows how to do this. Just as it knows how to destroy it knows how to build. The Prime Minister knows how to do it, as do the Defense Minister and the other Ministers. This is our unambiguous demand: To build Hill 18; to build Kiryat Arba and to build and to be built in all the land of Israel.”

MK Oded Forer came to pay a condolence visit to the Ariel family. He heard about Hallel-Yaffa and the family told him about the demand to build on Hill 18. Afterwards Forer went to look at Hill 18 from the family’s balcony and promised to help and promote the construction.

Culture Minister Miri Regev also came to comfort the Ariel family. The family demanded that the Minister help further construction and development in Kiryat Arba, Afterwards Regev went to see the Hallel-Yaffa’s bedroom. Following her visit both the Minister and mayor of Kiryat Arba, Malachi Levinger, went to see Hill 18, where there are already dozens of families, from the Ariel’s home. The minister gave her assurance that she will see how to best proceed with this.

MK Shuli Mualem-Rafaeli said on her visit, “Any attempt to move us away from here must lead to new building. Already on Thursday we started speaking about the return of security… [and] adding more and more neighborhoods. I call on the Prime Minister and Defense Minister to strengthen the settlement and permit, with the help of God, hundreds of housing units, to build Mitzpe Avichai.”

MK Yehuda Glick also joined in with the demand after paying a condolence visit to the Ariel family.
