‘Journey of the Three’ commemorates murdered teens
June 23, 2016Students of Ulpanat Tzvi in the Samaria town of Revava, went on a journey to commemorate two years since the murder of Eyal Yifrah, Naftali Frenkel and Gilad Sha’ar – the three Israeli teenagers who were kidnapped by Hamas terrorists.
The 9th grade girls class participated in the “Journey for the Three” which incorporated a variety of activities, volunteering and social activism aimed at giving, connecting and strengthening the spirit of unity among the people.
The group, chaperoned by school staff, began their journey in central Tel Aviv – at the Sarona Market, where they handed out greeting cards to passers-by, and at Ichilov Hospital, where they volunteered in various departments.
From there, the students went to Kfar Etzion in Judea and heard a talk from Rabbi Gilad Rosenberg of the Makor Chaim Yeshiva. The Rabbi spoke of spiritual challenges, giving, humility and of the three boys.
The next stop in the journey was Gush Etzion Junction, where they gave popsicle to all the IDF soldiers and read Psalms in memory of those killed in recent terrorist attacks.
Onwards they went to Givat Oz veGaon, which was established in memory of the three youths, where they spoke with activists Nadia Matar and Yehudit Katzover and Lt. Uri Shechter, who lead the team who found the boys.
On the last day of the trip, the students went to Jerusalem and volunteered at a number of organizations and held a closing ceremony at the Kotel (Western Wall) which was attended by a number of prominent rabbis including Rabbi Eitan Eisemann, Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu and Rabbi Avraham Lifshitz.
“The ‘Journey for the Three’ marks the completion of the school year for these students,” said Rabbi Shmuel Weiss, principle of the Ulpana. “These girls will begin their summer holiday after completing a voyage that connected them to the people of Israel.”
At the closing ceremony I emphasized to the students that their journey is just beginning and during the summer, they will each have the opportunity to help others. I am certain that this trip was a significant event which will greatly affect their involvement and contribution for all Israel.”
