Increased security for lawyer in Rabbi Berland case

July 27, 2016

Security has been beefed up around one of the prosecution lawyers in the Rabbi Eliezer Berland case, in the wake of intelligence information and posts on Facebook that reached the Ministry of Justice and the Israeli Police and which indicate that followers of the rabbi may try to harm him, Channel 10 News reported on Wednesday.

According to the report, the extra security is present during court hearings, while police cars patrol the lawyer’s home at other times.

The extra security measures come in the wake of the court’s decision to release Rabbi Berland to house arrest.

Police were opposed to the decision and requested that it be delayed for one day, out of fears that the Rabbi would escape authorities again.

Rabbi Berland, the founder and spiritual leader of the Shuvu Banim yeshiva, is accused of sexual harassment of three women.
