In geography, Yitzhak Herzog plays to lose

July 11, 2016

As usual, Opposition Leader Yitzchak Herzog waved the flag of victory for the wrong side.

When Portugal eked out a 1-0 victory in the Euro 2016 soccer finals last night, Herzog joined politicians all over the world in congratulating them for their success. “Viva Portugal!” he tweeted – while using Afghanistan’s flag.

Herzog quickly replaced the tweet with one with the actual Portuguese flag, but the internet already had him in its digital claws.

One commentator offered an image of the Iceland flag for Herzog to use when offering his commiserations to France.

An Israeli Redditor wondered why he didn’t use the Brazilian flag, in a reference to the 7-1 World Cup upset.

One tweeter wondered whether Herzog would accidentally make an official visit to Afghanistan instead of Portugal if elected prime minister.

As calls echo through the Labor Party for his removal, though, that’s one thing Israel may not have to worry about.
