Gopstein faces police complaints over Pride remarks

July 17, 2016

MK Michal Rozin (Meretz), the head of the Knesset’s Pride Lobby, has asked Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan (Likud) to take action against Lehava head Bentzi Gopstein.

Gopstein recently wrote on his Facebook page: “At 5:00 p.m. this Thursday, in Jerusalem’s Liberty Bell Park, we will try to stop the Pride Parade, which will feature all of society’s scum and filth — the bottom of the barrel of the human race — whose only goal is to spread their pollution and befoul the atmosphere of the holy city. There is no need to waste words on these people’s filth.”

MK Rozin wrote to Erdan: “Because these remarks are a veiled threat towards the marchers in the Pride Parade in Jerusalem; and because, only last year, police failures led to Shira Banki’s murder and the wounding of other marchers; I ask you to act in any way possible to ensure the personal safety of the marchers and to prevent any action which could harm the public peace or the right to demonstrate.”

In addition, the Jerusalem Open House for Pride and Tolerance filed a police complaint against Bentzi Gopstein.
