Ginsburg apologizes for ‘ill-advised’ comments on Trump

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Thursday acknowledged her recent comments criticizing Republican presidential Donald Trump were “ill-advised,” Politico reported.

“On reflection, my recent remarks in response to press inquiries were ill-advised and I regret making them,” she said in a statement quoted by the website.

“Judges should avoid commenting on a candidate for public office. In the future I will be more circumspect,” added Ginsburg.

The judge caused outrage with her remarks in interviews with multiple outlets — The Associated Press, The New York Times and CNN — in recent days.

In those interviews, she said “everything would be up for grabs” if Trump were to win the White House, added that she couldn’t imagine America with Trump in the Oval Office and blasted the presumptive Republican presidential nominee as a “faker.”

Trump blasted Ginsburg’s remarks on Tuesday night, writing on Twitter, “Justice Ginsburg of the U.S. Supreme Court has embarrassed all by making very dumb political statements about me. Her mind is shot – resign!”

He also told the Times her comments were “highly inappropriate,” given her position on the high court, and addded that what she said was a “disgrace to the court, and I think she should apologize to the court.”

Hours after calling for Ginsburg’s resignation, though, Trump vowed to swarm her on the Supreme Court with “real judges and real legal opinions!”

Ginsburg’s surprisingly outspoken comments on the presidential election drew criticism from Democrats, as well as the Times and Washington Post’s editorial boards, noted Politico.
