Debris from doomed EgyptAir flight found off Israeli coast

July 7, 2016

Debris from doomed EgyptAir flight MS804, which crashed last May on its way from Paris to Cairo, have been salvaged off the coast of the Israeli city of Netanya.

Israel’s foreign ministry has alerted both the Egyptian and French governments to the discovery,

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who is currently finishing up his tour of Africa, has been fully updated about the findings, and has instructed the relevant bodies to arrange for the transfer of the debris to Egypt in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the investigation into the cause of the crash itself goes on.

While investigators say they aren’t ruling anything out at this stage, terrorism remains the most likely cause.

Earlier this week, investigators say the black boxes recovered from the plane both indicate that pilots battled a raging fire prior to the crash. Such major blazes rarely occur unless they are started deliberately, either via an explosion or otherwise, analysts say.
