Chabad shaliach in Jerusalem passes away

June 17, 2016

Rabbi Yona Biniashvili, the Chabad shaliach (emissary) in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Hakerem, passed away suddenly on Friday after suffering a heart attack.

His funeral will be held Saturday night at 10:30 p.m. at the Har Hamenuchot cemetery in Jerusalem.

Residents of the neighborhood on Friday expressed their heavy sorrow over the loss of the rabbi, and told Arutz Sheva that he made sure to instill in the neighborhood’s children the values of Judaism and taught them before every holiday what are the commandments that are followed during that holiday.

In his last interview to Arutz Sheva, which came before Rosh Hashanah, Rabbi Biniashvili discussed the blowing of the shofar during the holiday.

“Children love illustration, especially now that we are living in a virtual world. By actually practicing, the child learns all about the shofar and that gives him a sense of action and he is connected to the commandment,” he said.
