Zoabi Not Alone: More Arab MKs Caught with Hamas Official

MK Hanin Zoabi, who rubbed elbows with well-known Hamas figures and was photographed during the act, is not alone, it was revealed on Friday.

Photos found by Israeli security forces after the arrest of senior Hamas official Dr. Aziz Duwaik on Thursday found that Arab MKs Ibrahim Sarsour and Masud Ghnaim came to Duwaik’s home in Hevron in 2009, after he was released from a previous arrest, to congratulate him.

Duwaik, who has served as the Speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) since January 2006, was arrested at a security checkpoint near Ramallah on Thursday. Israel believes he was involved in terror activities.

His arrest came just hours after the picture of Zoabi with him and another Hamas official, Mariam Saleh, the former minister for women’s affairs in Hamas-run Gaza, was made public.

Several MKs were outraged by the photographs and condemned the Arab MKs on Friday.

MK Ronit Tirosh (Kadima) said, “The Arab MKs’ celebration with a senior Hamas member shows their true nature. This is a cynical exploitation of Israeli democracy.”

She added, “Knesset members who sit in Israel’s Knesset and in the same breath, and proudly so, pose for photos with the enemies of Israel are traitors whose only desire is to harm Israel. It would be only appropriate for them to resign and go sit in Gaza with their Hamas friends.”

MK Anastassia Michaeli (Yisrael Beiteinu) called to deny wages to those MKs who were photographed with Arab MK terrorists.

“I appeal to all members of the Knesset to immediately open a Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on the issue,” Michaeli said. “The immunity of these outlaws should be immediately removed and their wages denied. We have to take action on their betrayal of Israel and we should also ensure that such treachery will result in the disqualification of such parties.”

MK Alex Miller (Yisrael Beiteinu), Chairman of the Knesset’s Education Committee, said that Arab MKs who meet Hamas leaders should not be permitted to run for the Knesset.

“If their claim is that they protect the political activities of members of the terrorist organization, then they are welcome to ‘act politically’ with them in Gaza and not in the Israeli Knesset,” Miller said. “The absurd cries out to the heavens when MKs from various Arab factions exploit the Israeli Knesset and the democratic platform, joining the worst enemies of Israel and promoting an armed conflict against the State.”

Miller added, “We must deny them the right to compete for the Knesset, because those who are not loyal to the State are not entitled to enjoy its fruits.”
