Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif boasted this week that an “Israeli plot” against Iran’s nuclear agreement with the six world powers has been defeated.

According to the Iranian PressTV, Zarif made the remarks on Tuesday upon his arrival in the Lebanese capital of Beirut on the first leg of his regional tour. 

He said the nuclear agreement between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries in Vienna last month created a historic opportunity for the countries in the Middle East region to repel “dangerous threats” such as the Israeli regime and terrorism.

Zarif expressed hope that the conclusion of Iran’s nuclear talks with the world powers would benefit the countries and nations in the region.

Zarif also specifically pointed to the Israel, terrorism, extremism and violence as the major challenges facing the countries in the Middle East, according to Press TV.

Iran has continued its rhetoric against Israel and the United States even after it signed the deal with Western powers.

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, recently published a new book on the topic of outwitting the United States and destroying Israel.

The book, entitled “Palestine”, is only available in Iran, but an Arabic translation is reportedly in the works. It lists Khamenei as “the flagbearer of Jihad to liberate Jerusalem” – and justifies the eradication of the Jewish state not as “European” anti-Semitism, but as an outcropping of “well-established Islamic principles.”

He previously declared that Iran’s policy towards the United States would not change even after the deal.

“We will never stop supporting our friends in the region and the people of Palestine, Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Bahrain and Lebanon,” he declared in a speech that was punctuated by cries of “Death to America” and “Death to Israel.”

Khamenei has also said that “some of the members of the P5+1 are not trustworthy”, and that is why the deal must be carefully scrutinized and legal procedures taken so the other side does not breach it.
