Worldwide Weather Forecast for Yom Kippur

The Yom Kippur fast day on Wednesday will be accompanied by relatively comfortable weather in most of the world but much warmer in Israel.

Temperatures will rise in Israel on Wednesday, reaching the upper 20s Celsius (mid-80s in Fahrenheit) but reaching a scorching 38 Celsius (100 Fahrenheit) in Be’er Sheva, the largest city in the Negev.

Elsewhere, temperatures will dip into the upper teens Celsius (60s Fahrenheit).

The most comfortable place during Yom Kippur is in most synagogues, which are air conditioned, but there usually is a two-to-three hour break in prayers in the afternoon, when most people walk home for a rest.

United States: High pressure remains over most of the country, with possible thunderstorms in New York, where the temperatures are forecast to range from 76 degrees in the day to a coolish 57 at night. In Miami, the thermometer will rise to 85 in the day and drop only to 77 at night. Thunderstorms are possible.

Temperatures on the Eastern Seaboard north of Virginia will be average to below average for this time of year.

Over the Southeast, it will be mostly dry with seasonal or slightly below seasonal temperatures, while it will be a bit warmer than usual in the southern Plains. In Texas, the thermometer will reach into the 90s.

Jews in Los Angeles will be fasting under sunny to partly cloudy skies with temperatures ranging from 78-67. In Chicago, the range will be 69 to 52 under partly cloudy skies.

Toronto: 18-7 Celsius (65-45 F) and partly cloudy.

London:  16-9 C (61-48 F) and cloudy with showers.

Paris:  18-12 C (64-53 F) and cloudy with showers.

Brussels: 16-10 (60-50 F) and cloudy.

Moscow: 14-5 C (57-40 F) and partly cloudy.

Sydney: 21-12 C (7-54 F) and partly cloudy.
