A Lebanese politician recently denied the Holocaust in a televised interview, claiming that the Holocaust was “shrouded in unclarity” and that the Jews “always fear exposure about the Holocaust.”

The politician, Vera Yammine of the political bureau of the Marada Movement, also accused “Zionism” of having “taken hold of the West” and claimed that jihadist groups such as the Islamic State (ISIS) or the Al-Nusra Front do not exist and “emerged from a single womb, the womb of Zionism.”

The interview aired on February 9 on Hezbollah’s Al-Manar TV and was translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).

“Why do the Jews reject any research of the Holocaust? Because there are doubts about it,” claimed Yammine. “In order to continue using it as a pretext over time, they must erase the truth.”

“The Zionists stand to gain from all these holocausts over time,” she continued, then charged, “They control the finances, the economy, the commerce – this is what enables them to drain us of our ideology and our culture, and to destroy our identity and our language. Therefore, it is only Zionism which stands to gain.”

Asked by the host if perhaps “Zionism” is a pawn of the West like ISIS, Yammine replied, “In my view, it controls the West. This is how far it has gone.”

“Zionism hit the West financially and fragmented Christianity by planting all kinds of sects in it,” she charged.

The Arab world today, claimed Yammine, suffers from “Arab Zionism” which “is the most dangerous form of Zionism.”

The remarks are reminiscent of ones that are constantly sounded by Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and other senior Iranian officials.

Khamenei just several wekks ago took advantage of International Holocaust Remembrance Day to deny that the Holocaust ever occurred.

A video titled “Are The Dark Ages Over?” was posted on Khamenei’s official website. Against the backdrop of images of the Auschwitz death camp, the video says that “speaking about the Holocaust and expressing doubts about it is considered to be a great sin,” but that “it is not clear whether the core of this matter is a reality or not.”

Khamenei two years ago suggested that the Holocaust “was not real”, and former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad denied the Holocaust on a regular basis as well. Prior to leaving the presidency, Ahmadinejad said he prided himself most on his denial of the Holocaust.
