In this video, filmed by a resident of Be’er Sheva, a Grad missile launched from Gaza is seen exploding in the city.
The video shows smoke rising from where the missile exploded.
More than 50 missiles were fired on southern Israel Sunday, several of them intercepted by the Iron Dome system, which automatically weeds out missiles that are aimed at open areas and doesn’t try to intercept them, but is not foolproof.
One of the missiles from Gaza struck the courtyard of an empty school in Be’er Sheva. Another rocket damaged 15 houses. The city’s order to close all schools saved possible mass casualties.
The rocket attack on Be’er Sheva was not intercepted and caused widespread property damage as well as sending several people into shock.
Following an assessment Sunday evening by top defense officials, it was decided to keep schools in Israel’s south closed on Monday. The decision applies to all schools, including special education, and daycare centers located between 7 and 40 kilometers of Gaza.
Affected cities include Ashdod, Ashkelon, Be’er Sheva, Netivot, Yavne, Gadera, Kiryat Malachi, Kiryat Gat, and Ofakim.
Schools will be open in the Beit Govrin, Galon and Shomriya regions. In addition, fortified schools will be open in towns located 0-7 kilometers from Gaza.
