USAF: Israel aided US Effort in Iraq, Afghanistan

The U.S. Air Force Commander has awarded the Legion of Merit to Israel Air Force Commander Maj. Gen. Ido Nechushtan, the IAF Website reports. Maj. Gen. Nechushtan received the decoration this week during a working visit to the U.S. The visit included numerous professional meetings and a close look at the future IAF combat aircraft, the F-35 aircraft.

“Maj. Gen. Ido Nechushtan has served commendably as the Commander of the Israeli Air Force,” the award certificate states. “He has solidified military ties between the United States and Israel and promoted Israel’s participation in the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Program.”

“The cooperation has covered many fields, including the IAF’s accumulated experience in operational anti-terror activity. The information assisted U.S. Air Force operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

“Maj. Gen. Nechushtan strengthened the IAF and its operational capabilities, becoming a leader in active defense against ballistic missiles. Maj. Gen. Nechushtan authorized the IAF’s participation in joint exercises with the U.S. Air Force that significantly increased cooperation between the two nations. Maj. Gen. Nechushtan has exhibited leadership and dedication to both the IAF and his country.”

Since July 1942, the Legion of Merit has been awarded to people with outstanding contribution to security.
