UN Probes Syrian Massacre

United Nations monitors entered a village Saturday to probe reports of a massacre.

At least 150 people were reported killed in the shelling by government troops who invaded the village with pro-regime mercenaries.

A convoy of 11 vehicles arrived in the central village of Tremseh, according to U.N. Mission spokesman Ahmad Fawzi, once it was confirmed  no shooting was taking place in the area.

More than 14,000 people have died in the civil war that was sparked by the Arab Spring uprisings in March 2011.

Recently the International Committee of the Red Cross declared the violence in Syria to be an “internal armed conflict” – layman’s terms for a civil war – which lays the groundwork for future prosecution for war crimes.
