A 25-year-old man sustained minor to moderate injuries on Thursday evening, as a gas cylinder exploded in a residential building in Tel Aviv’s Hatikva neighborhood.

A 28-year-old man was hurt in the explosion as well and sustained minor injuries.

Magen David Adom paramedics who were called to the scene provided the two victims and evacuated them to the Ichilov Hospital in the city.

An initial investigation revealed that the gas cylinder exploded in the two-storey building and caused the ceiling on the first floor to collapse.

The cause of the explosion is not yet known, but gas canister explosions have made headlines in Israel several times over the past few years.

In April, a man and woman in their 60s were critically injured in a fire that broke out their house in Gan Yavne and was caused by the explosion of a gas canister.

In May, four people were injured in a gas explosion in a private home on Silwan Blvd. near the Dung Gate in Jerusalem.

In January of 2014, a horrific explosion in the southern Jerusalem neighborhood of Gilo killed four, including a couple and their infant son, as well as a 60-year-old woman who was the primary caretaker of her aged Holocaust-survivor parents.
