A SurveyUSA poll that shows Donald Trump leading over Hillary Clinton by 5 points in a presidential race reduces the gap between the two in the average of national polls to 2.5 points in Clinton’s favor.

The poll by SurveyUSA finds that matched up directly, Trump receives 45 percent to Clinton’s 40 percent.

The Real Clear Politics average of polls includes polls by PPP, Quinnipiac, CNN/ORC and Fox News – all of which have Clinton leading over Trump, by two to six points. However, the SurveyUSA poll is the only one taken in September. The others were taken in August.

In other SurveyUSA head-to-head matchups, Trump beats Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) by 44 percent to 40 percent; Vice President Joe Biden by 44 percent to 42 percent; and former Vice President Al Gore by 44 percent to 41 percent.

The Hill says Trump’s surge past Clinton in the latest poll is “a dramatic turnaround.”

A CNN/ORC poll of national voters in late June, shortly after Trump annlounced his candidacy, gave Clinton a 59 to 34 percent lead over Trump in a head-to-head race.

The same poll taken in July gave Clinton 57 percent to Trump’s 38 percent, and the August version saw the gap reduced to 52 for Clinton and 43 for Trump.

The poll also found that 30 percent of respondents believe Trump will eventually be the Republican nominee for president. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush came in second, with 20 percent saying they expect him to win the nomination. Following Bush were retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.).

The SurveyUSA poll surveyed 1,000 adults across the nation Sept. 2-3, and it had a margin of error of 3.3 percent.
