Top Al Qaeda Commander, Wanted for 9/11, Caught in Cairo

Egyptian security officials have caught senior international Al Qaeda terrorist Saif al-Adel, wanted by the U.S. in connection with the 9/11 terrorist attack on America.

The 59-year-old terrorist was arrested at Cairo airport upon his arrival on an Emirates Airline flight from Pakistan, with a stopover in Dubai.

The Egyptian-born Adel is the No. 3 official in the Al Qaeda terrorist organization, and appears on the FBI’s Most Wanted List. He was a former Egyptian army colonel who once headed the country’s special forces.

Known also as Muhamad Ibrahim Makkawi, and Ibrahim Madani, he was arrested after he presented a travel document at the customs area in Cairo airport.

Adel is wanted by the United States in connection with the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack by Al Qaeda. He also allegedly helped mastermind the May 12, 2003 suicide bombings in Riyadh that killed 25 people, including seven U.S. nationals.

In addition, Adel is wanted in connection with attacks on U.S. embassies in East Africa in 1998. A $25 million reward had been offered for information leading to his capture.
