Top 10 Anti-Semites of 2012
December 31, 2012
International human rights group Simon Wiesenthal Center has recognized 2012’s biggest anti-Semites in its annual top 10 list of worst offenders.
Tied for the top spot were Muhammad Badie and Futouh Abd al-Nabi Mansour of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood. The two earned the title for the Brotherhood after making a number of inflammatory statements against Israel, as well as for a public prayer by Mansour earlier in the year, calling on Allah to destroy Jews and their supporters.
Coming in second was the Iranian regime, whose President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad earlier in the year accused Zionists of a 400-year conspiracy in during which they have run world affairs.
Also earning a mention was Iran’s Vice President Mohamed Rahimi, who said the Talmud teaches Jews to “destroy non-Jews in order to protect the wombs of Jewish mothers.”
A number of newcomers including the Greek far-right Golden Dawn, the Hungarian Jobbik party, and the Ukrainian Svoboda Party also made the list for spreading ultra-nationalism and making slanderous statements about Jews and minorities.
Earlier in December, a Svoboda lawmaker labeled Ukrainian-born actress Mila Kunis a “zhydovka”, a derogatory term that roughly translates to “dirty Jewess.”
But perhaps the biggest surprise was the inclusion of European football for what the center labeled a forum for the outbreak of Jew hatred, after Nazi slogans and anti-Semitic slurs were repeatedly used in the stands, most recently at UK Tottenham matches.
Members of the Left also made the cut this year. Der Spiegel columnist Jakob Augstein took the number nine spot for writing a number of incendiary columns by comparing ultra-Orthodox Jews to Islamic fundamentalists and claiming that US foreign policy is controlled by Jewish interest groups.
