Three Days of Arab Arson ‘Terror’ in Judea Forest

Arab arsonists on Thursday evening set fire to the Gevaot Forest in the Gush Etzion region of Judea – the incident caps off a three-day consecutive run of rampant fires set to the same exact forest.

In response to the repeated arson, Gush Etzion regional council chair Davidi Perl said, “the ongoing situation cannot continue. Arson is a terror attack to all intents and purposes.”

“There’s no need to wait until the terrorists succeed in burning a community in order to understand that this is an attack,” emphasized Perl. “The arson in the forest adjacent to communities is a life-threatening danger, and there needs to be an end to the attacks this very day.”

Shortly before 8 p.m. on Thursday night firefighting crews were able to gain control over the fire at the Gevaot Forest.

However, the fire wasn’t the only one on Thursday, as blazes broke out at several locations around the country in other potential arson incidents.

One fire broke out adjacent to the Jordan Valley town of Hemdat. The fire spread towards the Jordanian border, and caused large firefighting forces aided by airplanes to be dispatched to put it out.

Another blaze occurred on Mount Sansan adjacent to Tzur Hadassah, a suburb town to the west of Jerusalem.

Yet another fire took place at a factory in the industrial region of Ma’ale Efraim, a town located in eastern Samaria to the east of Ariel.

Large firefighting crews were dispatched to all of the blazes, and miraculously no injuries were recorded in any of the potentially lethal events.

This is not the first time that a wave of fires and Arab arson attacks has led to a call to recognize the incidents as terrorist attacks.

Last June massive fires threatened Jerusalem several days in a row and likewise struck communities around the country; in response former MK Dr. Michael Ben-Ari said, “who is burning our country every year? …Who’s hiding the nationalistic crime? Graffiti has been declared as terrorism, what about burning forests next to residential buildings?”
