Police in Jerusalem thwarted a stabbing attack in the capital’s Old City, after arresting a Palestinian man armed with a knife.
Officers had noticed the man – a resident of Al-Bireh, near Ramallah – acting suspiciously while walking along Muristan Road in the Christian Quarter. Upon being questioned he presented an ID card, and suddenly pulled a knife from his shirt.
Officers quickly tackled and disarmed the would-be stabber, arresting him and preventing any injuries.
The man was discovered to have been in Israeli sovereign territory illegally.
Jerusalem Police District Commander praised forces for their “alertness and vigilance.”
It was the third stabbing thwarted by alert security forces Sunday, after similar incidents in Samaria and Hevron.
Earlier Sunday, one man was wounded in a stabbing attack elsewhere in Jerusalem.
Shortly after the thwarted Old City attack, a terrorist stabbed two people near Shechem in Samaria – in what was the fifth attack or attempted attack of the day Sunday.
