Six Israeli Arabs were arrested – and then released – in early May, during the early stages of the investigation into the murder of 19 year-old Shelly Dadon, the Supreme Court permitted the press to publish Tuesday. 

The six suspects, some of whom were teenagers, were detained for eight days on suspicion of involvement in Dadon’s murder. All denied any connection to the murder and were eventually released on lack of evidence. 

Police and the Israel Security Agency (ISA or Shin Bet) denied the six access to legal representation, according to the documents, on grounds that the murder was a terror incident. 

However, the investigation eventually followed leads in a different direction, according to the statement – and indications are that the arrests are not the “major breakthrough” said to be under a gag order. 

Police found Dadon’s body in an abandoned Migdal Haemek parking lot on May 1. 

Dadon had no criminal record; she had been on her way to a job interview but did not make contact with her family for several hours.

Family say she tried to make contact, saying she was being strangled; when they found out that she had never shown up for the interview, they contacted police. Her body was found a short time later by patrolmen.
