Singer Nini Claims Attacked for Her Politics

Two days after performer and songwriter Yehonatan Geffen was assaulted, allegedly by someone who did not like his politics, singer Ahinoam Nini said that she, too, was targeted. Nini said that she was subjected to curses and insults as she landed at Ben Gurion Airport Sunday, returning from a trip abroad.

I came back to Israel after a few days in Italy and got a ‘nice’ reception at the airport,” Nini wrote on her Facebook page. “’Here is Ahinoam Nini,’ they shouted at me. ‘She is a ruiner of Israel. We will deal with her like we dealt with Gefen.’ Isn’t that nice? Welcome to the nightmare we have awakened to,” she said.

Five hours earlier, Nini complained about the results of last week elections on her Facebook page. “The best thing about the horrible election results is that we will now have a clear delineation of stances, with everyone coming out of their holes – including the ugly radical right wing victors, drunk from their victory, who will show off their ugly faces, along with the good people, like Geffen.”

In the post, Nini called on her fellow artists not to fear sharing their political opinions. “I am so sorry about what happened to Geffen, he is a wonderful person. I send him my love. I was very happy to hear what he said about the elections.”

Geffen last week week reacted to the Likud’s landslide victory in the elections by saying that “March 17 will be declared the Nakba of the peace camp. The people once again elected a racist man who said that the Arabs are flocking in large amounts to the polls. All those who voted for Bibi, do not cry when your children will die in the next stupid operation,” Geffen said. On Friday, Geffen said that an assailant arrived at his home, knocked on the door and when he opened it, hit him in the face, shouted “leftist, traitor” and threw eggs at him.
