An Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) agent was killed on Tuesday during an operation in Gaza, it has been cleared for publication.

His family has been informed. The circumstances surrounding his death are being investigated.

Among the possibilities being checked is whether an IDF force made a mistake in identifying the man as he stood near the security fence, and wrongly took him for an Arab terrorist – Gaza terrorists frequently attempt to infiltrate the fence.

It is being investigated whether such a mistake was made, leading the IDF force to open fire on the ISA agent and kill him.
