Israel’s ninth President, Shimon Peres was admitted to Tel Hashomer Hospital on Thursday morning. Early reports say that the admission was due to chest pains.

Peres who is 92 years old, is currently conscious. Peres’ personal assistant, Ayelet Frish told Yediot news outlet that “He woke up this morning with chest pains. The paramedic from the protection agency said that there is a heart complication and suggested we go to the hospital.” 

Peres was supposed to participate in a festival at the Habimah theater in Tel Aviv later today. 

Peres was Israel’s Prime Minister four times, twice as Prime Minister and twice as interim Prime Minister in the 1980’s and 90’s. He was part of 12 cabinets and his political career spanned more than 66 years in Israel.
