In a unanimous verdict, the Nazareth District Court found Hussein Halifa of Iblin guilty of murdering 19-year-old Shelly Dadon, and sentenced him to life in jail Wednesday.

Halifa will also pay compensation in the sum of NIS 258,000 to Dadon’s estate.

Dadon left her home in Afula for a job interview in Migdal Haemek on May 1, 2014. She got on Halifa’s taxi but he drove her to an abandoned parking lot in the industrial area.

Dadon felt that something was wrong and – in a chilling recording played during the trial – called her cousin to tell her that she was in a cab that was very frightening and that she “couldn’t breathe.”

At that point, according to the charge sheet, Halifa decided to murder Dadon.

He took a long knife and stabbed her repeatedly, as she tried to escape from him. He left her to bleed to death in the parking lot, and drove off.
