Shalits Return Home: We’re Waiting for Gilad

More than a year after leaving their home and marching to Jerusalem to protest for their son’s return, Aviva and Noam Shalit, Gilad Shalit’s parents, returned to their home in Mitzpe Hila on Wednesday.

Israel’s Channel 10 News reported that the Shalits were greeted by hundreds of people, but asked that everyone keep their cool until Gilad returns.

After driving several hours from Jerusalem to Mitzpe Hila, which is located in northern Israel, Noam Shalit got out of the car and made a few comments to the cameras.

“I just want to get home,” he said. “We’re hoping for the best. We’re happy to come home and we will be even happier when Gilad returns.”

It is anticipated that the deal to release Shalit, which was approved by the Cabinet late Tuesday night, will be completed by the middle of next week, and some time afterwards Gilad will be returned to Israel.

The Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram reported on Wednesday that the deal will be completed within 48 hours, but that report was unconfirmed elsewhere.

The Ministry of Justice will publish the list of terrorists who will be released as part of the deal by Sunday morning and the public will be given a window of 48 hours to file appeals to the Supreme Court.
