The Zionist Union has demanded Opposition Leader Yitzhak Herzog stop negotiations with the ruling Likud party Friday, despite Herzog stating that rumors of a breakthrough in talks for a unity government were premature. 

MK Stav Shaffir called the talks a “betrayal” to Zionist Union voters. 

“For an entire year, we promised it would be ‘us or him,'” Shaffir said, referring to the Zionist Union’s failed campaign slogan. “At no stage did we say ‘we.’ The ongoing and sluggish discussions embarrass me.” 

Shaffir added that the current government is “devastating” Israel. 

“Contrary to bad governments before it, it is not enough to ruin the economy, neglect politics, and be careless in regards to security – but it also must be responsible for the complete disintegration of Israel’s social fabric and moral fiber,” she fired.

“This is a government of incitement and division.” 

Shaffir’s statements follow similar sentiments from MK Shelly Yechimovich, who warned against joining the coalition.

”This is not about a unity government,”  Yechimovich said. “This is a right-wing government in every way, when the Labor Party has to crawl and beg to get portfolios and positions.”

Yechimovich further claimed that the unity government is tailored specifically not to upset the eight-seat Jewish Home party.
