The Israeli Security Agency (ISA, Shabak) and IDF announced Thursday that they had arrested three Arab terrorists who shot at an Israeli vehicle on the access road between the towns of Ma’ale Shomron and Karnei Shomron. The incident occurred on September 30, with a car driven by a resident of Karnei Shomron sustaining substantial damage. No one was injured in the shooting attack.

The suspects were arrested three days after the incident, on October 3, the Shabak, Israel’s counterintelligence and internal security agency, announced Thursday.

The terrorists shot at the car as it passed near the Arab village of Azzoun, located along Road 55 next to Ma’ale Shomron and Karnei Shomron in the center of Samaria. The suspects were all from Azzoun. Two of the suspects – Mahmad Katsh (23) and Mahmad Swidan (20) carried out the shooting, while the third terrorist assisted them. All three admitted to their involvement in the attack under questioning. They will be tried by a Samaria military court in the coming days, the Shabak said.

A Shabak source said that the case was seen as a very important one by the organization and the IDF, because of the sensitive location of Azzoun and the fact that “recently, Azzoun has become a center of terror activity, with many instances of rock throwing and firebombs thrown at Israeli vehicles, as well as shooting attacks. The Shabak and IDF are working to limit the incidents, and will continue to do so,” the source said.
