Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu intends to form a coalition with the leftist Labor-Livni list and hareidi parties, a senior political source estimated Sunday night in an exclusive conversation with Arutz Sheva.
The source, who speaks often with Netanyahu, said that Netanyahu wil offer Yitzhak Herzog and Tzipi Livni senior portfolios in hos government, and flexibility as regards the Likud’s ideological platform.
The Jewish Home will be last on Netanyahu’s agenda, the senior source estimated. “He can be expected to make the Jewish Home crawl on its belly, maybe he will offer it this portfolio or that out of a sense of fairness but no more than that.”
“Netanyahu cannot form a government with the Right only,” the source went on. “For those of you who are dreamers, don’t let his visits to Eli, to the Cave of Patriarchs, to Yeshivat Torah Hahaim and other places on his itinerary for the coming weeks.”
The prime minister, explained the source, will be under leftist pressure from home and even moreso from abroad – from Europe and the US. That is why he will have to form a government with the Left in order to “calm down” the nations.
“Don’t be impressed by promises,” the source told Arutz Sheva. “I suggest that you be big and strong. You can have influence from the opposition, too – ask the Hareidim…”
Speaking on Channel 2 Saturday, Jewish Home Chairman Naftali Bennett said that if the party fails to achieve at least 15-16 votes, it will wind up in the Opposition. “And then. G-d forbid, the state of Palestine will be established in 2017.”
