A security detail has been assigned to Tzipi Livni, Channel 2 reports Wednesday, after she received multiple threats against her life.
The Knesset security department made the decision after assessing the level of the threats, as well as after noting that – due to her rotation agreement with Labor leader Yitzhak Herzog – she qualifies as a prime ministerial candidate.
Most of the remarks were made on Facebook, according to Channel 2, and included insults and death threats – enough for the security forces not to dismiss the threat level.
This is not the first time a party chairman has received a higher security detail during the 20th Knesset elections.
In January, Jewish Home Chairman Naftali Bennett’s security detail was heightened during his public appearances due to a litany of threats against him.
And in December, just after former Shas MK Eli Yishai announced his Yachad-Ha’am Itanu party, a special security detail was assigned for his safety after Shas supporters interrupted the party’s debut event.
