Second baby to die in nanny’s care in last month

A four-month-old baby girl from Bnei Brak passed away at Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer on Monday, after losing consciousness at the home of her nanny.

The infant was rushed to the hospital in critical condition where doctors were forced to determine her death.

Abba Wilman, one of the United Hatzalah volunteers who evacuated the baby to the hospital, recounted, “There was a toddler who lost consciousness while she was with her nanny.”

“With the help of additional volunteers from United Hatzalah’s ambucycle unit, we performed a lengthy and advanced resuscitation effort. Later she was taken by ambulance to the hospital in critical condition as we continued to attempt resuscitation.”

The nanny was detained and questioned by police but released shortly afterwards; there is no suspicion of foul play in the baby’s death.

Nearly a month ago, a four-month-old baby from Beit Shemesh passed away 10 days after being admitted to a Jerusalem hospital suffering from severe head trauma.

The baby, the grandson of Beit Shemesh Mayor Moshe Abutbul, was reportedly injured after his nanny violently shook him in an effort to wake him up.

A fierce battle between the baby’s haredi family and a Jerusalem court erupted over whether to conduct a post mortem, with the Supreme Court eventually ruling his body would undergo a partial autopsy.
