Former Texas Governor Rick Perry announced on Thursday that he would seek the presidency a second time, ABC News reported.

Perry said he was running because “it’s time for a reset, time to reset the relationship between government and citizen.”

“We have the power to make things new again, to project America’s strength again, and to get our economy going again,” Perry, 65, told a gathering a public airfield in Addison, Texas.

“That is exactly why today I’m running for the presidency of the United States of America,” he added.

Perry, whose more than 14 years in office made him the longest-serving governor in Texas history, sought the Republican nomination in 2012 but eventually dropped out of the race.

Nine other Republicans have formally announced presidential candidacies, and at least half a dozen more are expected to jump into the 2016 race, noted ABC News.

Perry’s 2012 run was derailed by his cringe-worthy “‘oops’ moment,” when during a debate, he failed to remember the third of three federal agencies he said he would eliminate as president.

This time, though, he has said he has studied hard, and his many visits to Iowa in recent months have indicated he will make that state a central part of his election strategy, according to ABC.

When he was running in 2012, Perry said that, if elected president, he would support an Israeli airstrike on Iran if there is proof that the Islamic Republic is inching closer to a nuclear weapon.

Other candidates who have already announced they would seek the Republican nomination include  Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Lindsey Graham and Rand Paul.

Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush has yet to formally announce he is running but he said on Sunday he would make a final decision after an upcoming trip to Europe.
