The military prosecution on Monday filed a request with the military court in Jaffa asking to prohibit the publication of the names of officers and soldiers who are supposed to testify in the trial of Elor Azariya, the IDF soldier who is facing charges of manslaughter after having shot a wounded Arab terrorist in Hevron.

The request was submitted following the attacks on Azariya’s company commander, Captain Tom Naaman, who testified for the prosecution against Azariya.

The attacks against Naaman on social media prompted his army commanders, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to stand behind him and give him support.

Speaking Monday afternoon at a Likud faction meeting, Netanyahu said, “I think there is no place for such actions. I say today exactly what I told the soldier’s father – I trust the IDF, I trust the Chief of Staff, I trust the officers and soldiers, I trust the legal system one hundred percent. It is serious and fair.”

Netanyahu also called to “calm down the dialogue and keep the IDF out of politics. We have to protect the IDF just as it protects us.”
