Behind every great man there’s a great woman? Channel Ten revealed Monday that Lihi Lapid was sending personal email requests to her husband Yair Lapid’s office, during his tenure as Finance Minister in the last Knesset.
According to available information, Lihi Lapid’s messages and requests were given preferential treatment by office workers in the Yesh Atid offices, particularly in the welfare and health departments.
Both of these ministries were under Yesh Atid’s authority in the 19th Knesset, which dissolved in early December.
Lapid’s emails include requests for painkillers for a friend as well as a suggestion to offer support for the Animal Welfare Association.
Other messages transferred by Lihi Lapid to the Yesh Atid offices include requests from parents of autistic children and Holocaust survivors. It appears these people wrote to Lapid, and the tribulations that touched her, she forwarded to Yesh Atid’s offices.
Channel Ten‘s request to receive full transcripts of the emails apparently created a huge storm, despite Yesh Atid insistence the inquiries were routine.
Eventually finance ministry officials stepped in and decided against handing over the emails to the media.
Lapid’s office did, however, say in response that “Lihi never requested a budget [for any cause] from the Finance Ministry.”
“Every public appeal that Lihi received was transferred to the office and received a professional response; these requests were treated like any appeal from the public.”
