Tel Aviv University cancelled on Sunday the planned speech by convicted Hezbollah terrorist Mohammed Canaana, who was to address stuents in the course of Land Day activities Monday.

Land Day is an occasion in which extremist Arabs protest the Jewish victories in the wars the Arabs have started, since 1948, and the expropriation of some Arab land in the aftermaths of these wars.

The university said that it is not cancelling its permission to hold a Land Day event on campus Monday, but will not allow Canaana’s participation.

The university’s statement said that the terrorist would not be let in “because of concern over disturbance to the public peace, and since the specific request for his participation was only received recently, without allowing us time for preparations.”

A protest against the speech by Canaana was jointly organized Sunday by several student groups – spanning Israel’s wide political spectrum – who are outraged at the invitation to Canaana.
