Prosor Criticizes UN Over ‘Unilateral’ Decisions on PA

Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Ron Prosor, criticized the international body on Wednesday over what he termed its “unilateral decisions” regarding the Palestinian Authority.
Prosor, who spoke for the first time in his new role as Vice President of the General Assembly, was quoted by Channel 10 News as having said, “We oppose the unilateral decisions which are repeated every year in regards to the Palestinians.”
“These futile decisions and discussions lead nowhere, escalate the situation in the region and draw unnecessary money from the United Nations,” he added.
“Israel is committed to the United Nations working program on development, advancement of women, eradication of hunger and poverty,” said Prosor.
The Israeli ambassador was unanimously chosen a few months ago to serve as the General Assembly’s Vice President, representing the group of Western countries. This group includes the countries of Western Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
The next session of the General Assembly will officially open on September 25, Erev Yom Kippur. Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will address the General Assembly on Thursday, September 27. In a statement released a few weeks ago, Netanyahu said he would devote his speech to “tell the nations of the world the truth about Iran’s terrorist regime, which constitutes the greatest threat to world peace.”
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is expected to address the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, September 26, which also happens to be Yom Kippur.
Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas plans to ask the General Assembly to recognize a “state of Palestine” on September 27.
