Poll: Clinton Could Beat Leading GOP Candidates
October 28, 2011
A new poll published on Thursday has found that U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton would have a better chance of beating some GOP Presidential candidates than President Barack Obama.
According to the poll, which was conducted by Time magazine and presented on Politico.com, if Clinton were to run against former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, she would beat him by 17 points, 55 percent to 38 percent.
The same poll found that Clinton would beat Texas Governor Rick Perry by 26 points, 58 percent to 32 percent.
In contrast, Time found that Obama leads Romney by only three percentage points and Perry by 12 points.
Clinton, however, has repeatedly said “no” when asked whether she would run for president in 2012 or 2016, Politico.com noted.
Clitnon was asked on NBC’s Today Show two weeks ago whether she would consider running for president again and she unequivocally said no.
“I’m very privileged to have had the opportunity to serve my country,” Politico.com quoted Clinton as having said. “I’m really old-fashioned. I feel I have made my contribution. I have done the best I can. But now I want to try some other things. I want to get back to writing and maybe some teaching, working on women and girls around the world. I think it’s time for others to step up.”
The GOP candidates for the Presidential run have been seen as very pro-Israel, while Obama has been slammed as having “thrown Israel under the bus,” as Romney recently put it, because of his policy on the Middle East.
Last month, Perry blamed Obama for the Palestinian Authority’s unilateral statehood bid at the United Nations, saying that “we would not be here today at this very precipice of such a dangerous move if the Obama policy in the Middle East wasn’t naive and arrogant, misguided and dangerous. The Obama policy of moral equivalency which gives equal standing to the grievances of Israelis and Palestinians, including the orchestrators of terrorism, is a very dangerous insult.”
Herman Cain, another GOP presidential hopeful, recently said in a televised debate that “if you mess with Israel, you are messing with the United States of America.”
